The San Francisco 49ers went toe to toe with the top-ranked New Orleans Saints in a bayou brawl for the ages in Week 14 and emerged victoriously.

Games like this are simply not good for my heart.

I have the reading from my watch to back up this claim. Even though the New Orleans Saints lost to the San Francisco 49ers 48-46 in an absolutely thrilling Week 14 bout at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, they can hold their heads up high. While they have nothing to be ashamed of, the Niners have much to be elated about as they reclaim the No. 1 spot in both the NFC and the NFC West by pushing the Saints out of the top spot, while the Seattle Seahawks lost to the Los Angeles Rams to drop out of the division lead.

My, oh my what a game for San Francisco, though!

This was the last of three consecutive games against opponents who boasted an above 80 percent win rate: a historic feat no other team has ever faced this late into the season. For the 49ers to walk away from this stretch with a 2-1 record is utterly remarkable.

The Niners are thoroughly battle-tested, and here are five takeaways we learned after this exhilarating Week 14 victory.
