Loser: Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo

One should note this isn’t an indictment against quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. At least not from Niner Noise’s perspective.

But there’s going to be the national perspective, which has frequently nitpicked Jimmy G’s efforts for much of the season.

Those pundits, despite cornerback Richard Sherman‘s comments about Garoppolo and the narrative around him, are likely going to have a field day after Week 13 in coming days.

Overall, Garoppolo went 15-of-21 for 165 yards, a touchdown and a passer rating of 110.2. All those numbers are better than Garoppolo’s counterpart, Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson. Yet Jackson emerged as one of Baltimore’s biggest stars in the game, while Garoppolo will likely be an afterthought.

Or, as so much of the narrative has gone, those pundits will say, “Garoppolo didn’t pass for enough yards,” “his costly fumble led to a Ravens touchdown” or “Jimmy G didn’t do enough to put the 49ers on his shoulders.”

Get the point?

It’s not fair to Garoppolo at all. And while the fumble was costly, one might forget Jackson fumbled, too. That play led to San Francisco points.

Garoppolo only loses because the 49ers lost. That should be it.
