Loser: Wide Receiver Dante Pettis

While Deebo Samuel has been on the ascent lately, fellow wide receiver Dante Pettis appears to be heading in the opposite direction.

More from SF 49ers News

Prior to Sunday’s contest, Kyle Shanahan had some provocative words about Pettis’ overall impact this season, courtesy of NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco:

"He’s had a number of opportunities. I’m one of the guys that believe in him the most. That’s why he’s here. He’s had his opportunities. The more he doesn’t take advantage of his opportunities, the less opportunities he gets."

It sure appeared as if Pettis wasn’t getting opportunities against the Cardinals.

The San Francisco Chronicle’s Eric Branch reported Pettis didn’t log a single snap during the game. And while there’s some fan reaction stating Pettis was on the field for at least two snaps, the overall message is the second-year receiver is no longer receiving the attention from Shanahan given to other pass catchers.

What that means moving forward is anyone’s guess. But Pettis’ lack of use in Week 11 isn’t a good sign for San Francisco’s second-round pick from the 2018 NFL Draft.
