No. 1: 49ers Defensive Front Seven vs. Kyler Murray

It’s becoming clearer each week why the Cardinals used the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft on Kyler Murray.

He’s emerging as a bona fide star, and the rookie had no problems giving the 49ers fits two weeks ago.

In total, Murray’s 241 pass yards, two touchdowns and 37 rush yards don’t emulate All-Pro numbers. But what has already made Murray a name to watch is his elusiveness in the pocket, backed by an ability to scramble away from pressure in order to either extend plays or rush for first downs.

“He’s like a little squirrel back there,” Pro Bowl defensive tackle DeForest Buckner told reporters after facing Murray in Week 9. “Like a little squirrel running everywhere and everything. Next time we go against them, we have to do a better job at containing him and keeping him in the pocket.”

Stacking the box might do well against a player like Kenyan Drake. But with Murray’s elusiveness, it comes at a notable cost.

One the Cardinals will look to exploit in Week 11.
