42. . . . Jimmy Garoppolo. 5. player

Earlier this season, some could have argued Jimmy Garoppolo was playing at a mere game-managing level, at times taking unnecessary risks, which resulted in averaging at least one interception per game before Week 9.

More from Niner Noise

Prior to his dominant efforts over the Cardinals on Thursday night, Garoppolo managed only three games this season in which he tossed for more than 200 yards. And the same number goes for the amount of times he threw for a passer rating over 100.

That said, Garoppolo wasn’t exactly getting a lot of help from his crop of wide receivers. At least not before Emmanuel Sanders joined the fray. And with San Francisco’s running game working so well, there wasn’t much of a need for Jimmy G to make a slew of plays regularly through the air.

Bluntly stated, the 49ers were winning. No need to change anything, right?

Yet Garoppolo had his 2019 coming-out party against the Cardinals, which was great. And his 70.8 passer rating this year ranks fourth heading into Week 9. The overall numbers may not earn Garoppolo a trip to the Pro Bowl this season.

But Garoppolo is finally living up to the expectations placed upon a franchise signal-caller. All he does is win, anyway.
