It wasn’t just Halloween making it scary as the San Francisco 49ers edged past the Arizona Cardinals 28-25 to go to 8-0 for the season. Niner Noise breaks down five key takeaways from the game.

It was a bit close for comfort by the end, but the Arizona Cardinals became the latest victim for the San Francisco 49ers as the 28-25 scoreline meant that San Francisco successfully went through half its season undefeated.

Perhaps it was the short turnaround to Thursday night, but the team seemed to be very off in some aspects.

While San Francisco would never relinquish the lead once they managed to catch up to the fast start of Arizona, they were never able to put them away like they were able to past opponents.

The vaunted running game that trampled over a stronger Carolina defense struggled, and the much praised defense was unable to force a turnover all night and uncharacteristically gave up a lot of big plays.

It was up to quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to take up the slack and lead the team. The result was arguably his best game ever in his professional career.

Make no mistake, Garoppolo was the MVP by the length of the football field. His throws were crisp and precise, his leadership was impeccable, he extended several drives and he iced the game when the Cardinals threatened the upset.

This was just the start, so here’s five takeaways from the 49ers Week 9 victory over the Cardinals.
