49ers to watch vs. Redskins Week 7 Kyle Shanahan

No one wants a Week 7 victory for the San Francisco 49ers more than head coach Kyle Shanahan, who has been waiting for today’s rematch since the 2017 Niners’ potential game-winning drive was cut short due a botched offensive pass interference penalty call.

Shanahan spent four seasons as the offensive coordinator of the Washington Redskins before he, along with his father — head coach Mike Shanahan — were fired in 2013, partially due to their ongoing feuds and disagreements with Redskins owner Daniel Snyder and general manager Bruce Allen.

It’s no secret Snyder and Allen have continued to hold a grudge against their former offensive coordinator.

When Shanahan first moved to San Francisco, Kevin Jones of Blue Wire reported, “One obstacle in the Kirk Cousins trade: Dan Snyder. I’m told bad blood remains between he & Kyle. Dan doesn’t want a Shanahan landing Kirk.” Jennifer Lee Chan of Niners Nation reported similarly about the Washington “Soap Opera.”

However, earlier this week, Shanahan made it crystal clear the feeling is mutual:

The San Francisco 49ers are 5-0 this season, while the Washington Redskins’ lone win was a bumbling one-point victory against the worst team in the NFL. But with Shanahan leading the charge, don’t expect the Niners to take their Week 7 opponent lightly.

The former offensive coordinator has something to prove to his old bosses. On Sunday, expect Shanahan to put his foot on the gas pedal, and leave it there until the clock hits zero.
