The San Francisco 49ers are coming along nicely with a perfect 5-0 record. The scary thought is some players aren’t playing at their full potential yet, and Niner Noise looks at three who need to step it up against the Washington Redskins.

The fun thing about writing for an undefeated San Francisco 49ers team is how positive one can be about the squad this season.

Even this, an article about players who need to improve, is more focused on them playing better than merely being good players. As opposed to last year, where some players were just flat-out struggling and needed desperate improvement.

So consider this less of a criticism of these players, and more an expectation to raise an already acceptable bar.

They can do this as soon as this upcoming Week 7 clash against the Washington Redskins. The Redskins are the worst team in the NFC and struggled to beat the worst (by a long margin) team in the NFL in the Miami Dolphins last week. Washington parted ways with its former head coach, Jay Gruden, earlier this season, too.

And one has to know 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan will be seeking some revenge against his former employer. There’s surely no love lost between Shanahan and the Redskins owner, Dan Snyder, either.

While I don’t want to go so far as to call it a certain win (I loathe trap games unless it’s San Francisco as the underdogs), there’s sure to be big opportunities to improve.

That being said, the Redskins are one of the better matchups this season to get the ball rolling, so let’s take a look at some players who can improve in this Week 7 road bout.
