5 prospects for 49ers to consider in 2020 NFL Draft
What should the 49ers do with safety Jaquiski Tartt? He’s undoubtedly talented, but he could be one injury away from the team deciding they need to look elsewhere at the position. A definite ‘what if’ scenario for sure, but the 49ers have little in the way of pressing needs.
If they do decide to replace Tartt, a strong safety they could look at is Xavier McKinney from Alabama.
McKinney has the ability to be any kind of safety the 49ers want him to be. Can he play in zone coverage? Sure. Play some man-to-man? Done. Play in the box to take down a running back? Easy.
Truth be told, McKinney is someone who any team would be lucky to have. He has no real weaknesses in his game that I’ve been able to find after looking at tape of games as far back as last year. He’s athletic, he plays with passion and he’s a smart football player.
We’ve seen extremely talented safeties fall in the draft for reasons that are beyond me. McKinney would be a superb addition to the 49ers’ defense.
