San Francisco 49ers: Stock report ahead of 2019 final cuts
Stock up: RB Jeff Wilson
The battle for the fourth running back on the roster, pending Jerick McKinnon being placed on injured reserve (IR) after suffering another setback to his knee, has been won by running back Jeff Wilson.
Wilson played pretty much the entire game in what amounted to his dress rehearsal for the job. He passed with flying colors too, tallying 100 rushing yards on 20 carries, including a great long touchdown run.
Fellow RB Austin Walter was decent with a touchdown of his own, but he’s only a practice squad candidate compared to Wilson.
There is a small chance the 49ers only keep three running backs on the final 53-man roster, and it’s not a given that McKinnon begins the season on IR. So while it’s impossible to guarantee Wilson a spot on the roster, he has definitely put himself in a better position than the one he was in at the beginning of the preseason.
