Week 3 of the 2019 NFL preseason went about as well as the San Francisco 49ers could have hoped. They vanquished one of the Super Bowl favorites 27-17, and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo played much better than last week.

If Week 2 against the Denver Broncos was a failure for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and the starting offense, Week 3 against the Kansas City Chiefs was about as great a turnaround as the San Francisco 49ers could have hoped for.

Of all the games the 49ers played or will play in preseason, this game is the most helpful in determining where a player sits on the depth chart.

Week 3 of the preseason is viewed as a regular-season tuneup, after all.

Starters played the first half before the backups and practice squad hopefuls took to the field in the final two quarters. Both halves were pretty impressive overall, as the Niners took down the Chiefs on their own turf at Arrowhead Stadium by a score of 27-17 Saturday night.

No, a win means nothing here. But there’s a certain amount of catharsis for Garoppolo to return to the location where he tore his ACL and play well on it.

Meanwhile, the backups did what they normally do this preseason and beat up on the backups in front of them. The 49ers depth looks very handy at some positions this year. And while I wouldn’t say they were perfect, there were a few backups who put pressure on some of the starters.

Time to look at the stock report for some Niners players out there ahead of the team’s final preseason bout this Thursday against the Los Angeles Chargers, as well as a small look at some smaller stock ups and downs who weren’t able to get a slide themselves.
