Defensive Grades

Defensive Line: B+

The defensive line put constant pressure on Kansas City’s second-string offense. Yet Patrick Mahomes had his way maneuvering in the pocket with the starters.

But, come on. His nickname is “the Ferrari” for a reason.

The line managed to get three sacks and six pressures on the Chiefs backup quarterbacks. Two of those sacks came from veteran defensive end Damontre Moore.

Linebackers: B+

The linebacking unit played solid all around in this game. Nobody stood out, however, no one made any noticeable mistakes either.

The 49ers should feel really good about this group going into the regular season, as the linebackers have really played well so far.

It was good to see free-agent addition Kwon Alexander contribute with three tackles while he was in there with the starting unit.

Secondary: C+

Mahomes was able to move up and down the field at will during his three drives at the helm. The secondary was burned on a deep wheel route to the running back, Damien Williams, for a 62-yard touchdown. The secondary looked confused on the play and was never able to catch up with the ball carrier.

After Mahomes and the rest of the starting offense left the game, the secondary played well. It wasn’t able to force any turnovers, but the unit only gave up a total of only 72 yards through the air to the Kansas City backups.
