No. 2: Penalties Are Still a Problem

While last week saw the 49ers commit 18 penalties for 216 yards, Week 2 gave hope the team would show more attention to detail in this area.

That hope vanished into the mile-high air with relative quickness.

San Francisco ended the night with 13 penalties for 101 yards. While that is a far cry from the ghastly total of Week 1, it was still a line that will be unacceptable once the regular season commences.

Granted, it’s not uncommon for teams to get flagged more during this exhibition period. But the Niners have had issues in the penalty department early in recent years under Kyle Shanahan, meaning it’s an area he’ll have to address sooner than later.

Especially if he wants the 49ers to get off to a hot start, unlike the previous two seasons.
