The future looks bright at a position that has gone widely under-addressed in previous seasons. The 49ers have not had a 1,000-yard receiver since Anquan Boldin posted 1,062 yards in 2014.

With taking receivers Deebo Samuel and Jalen Hurd in the second and third rounds in his years draft, Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch made it clear they were intent on getting the coach more weapons.

It’s safe to say that their mission has been accomplished. In last nights game, Samuel had two catches for 61 yards. Most of those came on a 45-yard play that gave a glimpse into what 49ers fans can expect from the rookie this season. After C.J. Beathard unleashed a long pass down the left sideline, Samuel jumped and rose over Cowboys defensive back Mike Jackson and made a spectacular catch.

That catch set up a touchdown pass to Hurd. The rookie came with more than a few questions surrounding his ability to succeed at the NFL level. It’s safe to say Hurd isn’t letting any doubt that others might have, impact how he plays this game.

He finished with two touchdowns against Dallas. While the second one was a great catch off of a back-shoulder pass in the end zone, it was the first score that could keep defensive coordinators up at night. Hurd managed to sneak in behind the first level of coverage, make the catch and then blew up Cowboys safety Kavon Frazier to get into the end zone.
