The San Francisco 49ers opened the 2019 preseason at home with a win against the Dallas Cowboys. Here are the five things we learned from Saturday’s matchup.

The San Francisco 49ers 2018 season fell far short of the expectations that were set after quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo led the team to five straight victories the season before.

Injuries played a significant role in derailing the team’s campaign last year. As such, 2019 would appear to hinge on their stars staying off of the injured list. While that goal wasn’t entirely realized, as they found a way to come away with a 17-9 preseason Week 1 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday night, there were some positives to take away from their first exhibition win this year.

Even though many of the Niners’ projected starters for the regular season were not suited up in preseason Week 1, a good number of their backups made strides.

With that said, there were others who left something to be desired. Below are the five main takeaways from this first preseason contest.
