Stock down: Willie Beavers

Unfortunately, the 49ers just cannot shake the injury curse that has befallen them. Swing tackle Shon Coleman went down early into the game when fellow offensive lineman Najee Toran fell onto his leg and caused a horrific-looking ankle injury.

Willie Beavers got the first crack at the important swing tackle role, but he’ll be fortunate if he gets a second look at it.

Beavers did not look like an NFL-worthy tackle, and was regularly beaten by the Dallas defensive linemen. When he wasn’t beaten he was being penalized, as at least three holding calls were called against him during the game.

Rookie Justin Skule was the starting right tackle in this contest, and played a much better game overall. It’s unlikely Skule can be a swing tackle as he never played left tackle at Vanderbilt, but it may be a good idea to see what he can offer.

Beavers may get one more chance before the 49ers look into signing a new tackle (the 49ers have waiver priority over everybody except the Arizona Cardinals, should a tackle be released), and he better hope he improves significantly.
