Stock up: Dre Greenlaw

It’s quickly becoming apparent that Dre Greenlaw is not just a standout at training camp, but is bringing it on the field as well.

Greenlaw had five tackles in the first half, including a hard tackle-for-loss where he went into the backfield untouched and blew up a running play.

Greenlaw doesn’t play with a lot of size, but he uses speed and good football IQ to make plays wherever he can. He was easily the best linebacker on the field for the 49ers, and has built a lot of momentum for himself.

It’s important to note he wasn’t perfect, however. He did bite on some play-action passes that drew him out of position, and he did look a bit slow when in zone coverage.

But as a young defender who excels more in man coverage than zone, that isn’t a big surprise and can be rectified as he gets more experience.

For now, Greenlaw gets a stock up.
