Cornerback

Lock: Richard Sherman, K’Waun Williams, Ahkello Witherspoon, D.J. Reed, Jason Verrett

Strong Bubble: Tim Harris

Weak Bubble: Dontae Johnson, Emmanuel Moseley

Long Shot: Greg Mabin

The 49ers appear to have their crop of corners in place for 2019, outside a final spot or two at the back end of the depth chart.

Perhaps the only camp competition here is for the No. 2 cornerback spot between third-year pro Ahkello Witherspoon and the oft-injured Jason Verrett, who only recently took the field for practices.

This could give Witherspoon the edge for Week 1, and he’s been playing much better in training camp than he was this time last year. It will be interesting to see if those efforts carry over into the regular season, though.

Second-year pro D.J. Reed winds up being a lock for one simple reason: versatility. San Francisco experimented with Reed at safety last year with mixed results. At nickel corner, however, Reed proved to be much more comfortable, making him a quality reserve against any injury to the starter, K’Waun Williams.

The rookie, Tim Harris, could wind up easily making the 53-man roster but likely finds himself a regular on the weekly inactive list.
