Safety

Lock: Jaquiski Tartt, Marcell Harris, Tarvarius Moore, Jimmie Ward

Strong Bubble: Adrian Colbert, Antone Exum

Weak Bubble: Tyree Robinson

Long Shot: Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles

There’s a little more drama at safety, especially after the 49ers have essentially moved defensive back Tarvarius Moore from cornerback to free safety permanently.

Defensive coordinator Robert Saleh has stressed Moore has a long way to go before emerging as a legitimate starting option, and that role likely goes to the oft-injured veteran, Jimmie Ward.

But Moore’s switch could spell some roster danger for fellow defensive backs Adrian Colbert and Antone Exum. Colbert, who struggled last season in a starter’s role before landing on injured reserve, has had a tough time in training camp, too. There’s a chance the Niners are forced to keep just one player between these two, saving up roster spots elsewhere. And while it’s possible both Colbert and Exum hang around as reserve options, it’s not quite a lock either player stays safe.

The rookies, Tyree Robinson and Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles, could be vying for spots on the practice squad. Both have promise, yet they’re also considerably raw and need some refinement.
