49ers 2019 roster bubble-watch prediction ahead of preseason Week 1
By Peter Panacy
Special Teams
Lock: Robbie Gould, Mitch Wishnowsky, Colin Holba
Strong Bubble: None
Weak Bubble: None
Long Shot: None
There isn’t a lot of drama here, fortunately. There certainly was earlier this offseason, as veteran kicker Robbie Gould continued a holdout after being hit with the franchise tag.
Gould has since signed a new deal, keeping him with the 49ers up to four years, which also prompted the team to part ways with its reserve option, Jonathan Brown, after Gould inked the new contract.
Neither Gould nor rookie punter Mitch Wishnowsky will have any sort of competition during the preseason, barring the Niners bringing aboard someone else to serve as an exhibition specialist.
Colin Holba is safe at long-snapper for the start of the season, as Kyle Nelson still has six games remaining on his 10-game suspension for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances.
If there’s any drama there, it’s when Nelson returns from suspension.
