49ers 2019 roster bubble-watch prediction ahead of preseason Week 1
By Peter Panacy
With the San Francisco 49ers starting their 2019 preseason campaign this week, Niner Noise takes a look at the 90-man roster to see who’s safe and who is on the bubble.
It’s that time of year again when the San Francisco 49ers have to start thinking heavily about which players end up making the 53-man roster for Week 1.
And with the Niners kicking off their 2019 preseason campaign this week, as well as training camp being under full steam, there’s a lot up for grabs over the final month without regular-season football.
Niner Noise has already dished out prediction pieces for what the 53-man roster will look like by the start of the regular season. But like anything this time of year, it’s educated guesswork. There are going to be risers, fallers and perhaps some injuries between now and the beginning of September. San Francisco might even juggle a few players on the waiver wire or through trades, too.
Simply put, there’s a lot yet to be determined.
But with one week before exhibition football kicks off, it’s time Niner Noise breaks down the team’s 90-man offseason roster and see where each player lands on the bubble. Like always, we’ll list each category as the following:
- Lock
- Strong bubble
- Weak bubble
- Long shot
There are going to be some unique exceptions, particularly with injuries which could carry into the regular season. Those will be explained, if necessary.
Instead, let’s dive into one last look at which players don’t have too much to worry about regarding roster status. And, more importantly, which ones need to have good showings between now and September.
Starting off with special teams.
