No. 8: Mike McGlinchey

Most 49ers fans will remember the 2018 draft and what they wanted the first round to look like. It’s safe to say most casual followers weren’t exactly happy when the team selected right tackle Mike McGlinchey with the ninth overall pick.

Even though the team would trade then-right tackle Trent Brown to the New England Patriots, some people saw it as a bad move on the part of Lynch.

Those people could not have been more wrong.

McGlinchey finished as the league’s best run-blocking rookie lineman in 2018. He also finished 2018 as the NFL’s second-best run blocker at tackle with a 78.2 grade from Pro Football Focus.

He does need to improve on his pass blocking, something that was well documented after he finished with a grade of 64.2 from Pro Football Focus as well. All signs point to McGlinchey making adjustments as he tries to improve at protecting his quarterback.

Being rated as one of the best linemen in the league as a rookie bodes well for McGlinchey’s future and a stat that he most certainly will improve on in his second season.
