No. 2: Wide Receiver Trent Taylor Reemerging as a Threat

Remember when then-rookie wide receiver Trent Taylor had 430 receiving yards back in 2017? Remember how Taylor recorded 19 third-down receptions for a third down that year?

Well, those efforts all but disappeared in 2018, as Taylor regressed amid a season in which a back injury thwarted any prospects for an excellent second-year maturation.

It sure doesn’t seem like that will be the case this year, however.

During Sunday’s 7-on-7 drills, Taylor caught a pass from backup quarterback Nick Mullens, then used his speed to create separation and make it into the end zone:

Taylor continued being a hot target during Monday’s padded drills, too. As NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco reported, Taylor caught a team-high three passes during 11-on-11 drills.

Maiocco even predicted Taylor would lead the team in receptions in 2019, so that’s something to watch.

It’s excellent to see Taylor reemerging as a go-to threat for the 49ers offense, which could translate into some big numbers from the third-year pro this season.
