No. 2: Jason Verrett looks good… for now

The ultimate boom-or-bust recruit for 2019 is Jason Verrett, the extremely talented, yet extremely fragile cornerback, previously of the Los Angeles Chargers.

It’s a small sample size without pads, but the early returns are exactly what the 49ers are hoping for.

Playing with the backups, Verrett was so good that he wasn’t even targeted. Verrett has the ability to shut down an entire half of the field at his best, so this is a good start.

If Verrett can stay healthy, at worst he would be an exceptional backup. And at his ceiling, he can be a top talent for the 49er defense.

Pads still have to go on and preseason games still need to be played, but the start is as good as anyone can hope for Verrett right now.
