No. 4: Ahkello Witherspoon goes from strength to strength

Cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon enjoyed a strong start to his preseason in OTAs, and that’s carried over to training camp.

Witherspoon picked off Jimmy Garoppolo on Sunday and broke up another pass, and looked crisp and fluid during drills.

Witherspoon had a strong rookie year, but struggled mightily last season as quarterbacks elected to throw in his direction more. He started to rebound down the stretch but missed the final few games to injury.

The secondary is the biggest question mark on the 49ers roster right now. If Witherspoon can continue his progression, then it would be a huge boost to a position group that is looking for some of its young personnel to step up into starting roles and perform well in 2019.
