Stock Mixed: QB Jimmy Garoppolo

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo impressed on Day 1 of training camp, completing six of eight pass attempts, including a deep reception to free-agent wide receiver Jordan Matthews. Garoppolo was less consistent on Sunday, as he completed less than half of his pass attempts, with a handful of throws missing their mark. However, Garoppolo is expected to be rusty in the opening days of post-injury training camp, and most importantly, he finished the weekend in good physical shape.

Stock Mixed: Dante Pettis

A couple of Garoppolo’s misses were intended for second-year wideout Dante Pettis, who failed to make a play on either of the errant throws. One would expect Pettis — certainly a finesse receiver — to show a bit more effort if he were playing in a regular-season game, but the youngster has yet to earn the trust of his starting quarterback, which Garoppolo made clear after an interception on Sunday:

Later, 49ers veteran cornerback Richard Sherman provided the wide receiver with some similar advice:

However, the weekend wasn’t all negative for Pettis, who made a handful of catches as he highlighted his route-running skills.

Stock Mixed: RB Tevin Coleman

With the 49ers’ defense dominating during the first weekend of training camp, San Francisco’s offensive line struggled to open holes for the Niners’ cadre of running backs, including Coleman. However, the former Atlanta Falcons running back was able to manage a couple of long runs, and added a few first-down receptions on Sunday.

Unfortunately, the front-runner in the 49ers’ backfield had his positive day ruined when Coleman turned the ball over thanks to a nice play by Warner, accompanied by swarming defense. Expect Coleman to keep both hands on the ball during Monday’s padded practice.
