49ers 2019 training camp: 5 biggest standouts from opening weekend
By Aaron Tan
The San Francisco 49ers have officially wrapped up their first two days of 2019 training camp practice. Niner Noise looks at five players who separated themselves from the rest.
After what seemed like an eternal wait, football is finally (kinda) back.
Teams across the league have started to meet, practice and plan for the 2019 season, which means the San Francisco 49ers, a team which most recently faced incredible adversity and disappointment, has begun trying to rebound from the disastrous 2018 season.
The 49ers’ first two training camp practices of 2019 do not feature pads, but they still manage to give the coaches and fans an idea of which players are excelling at their roles in preparation for the upcoming season.
These players are on the right track to help the team bounce back from last year and find success.
No. 5: Punter Mitch Wishnowsky
It’s safe to say the majority of the 49ers fanbase was at least a little bit disappointed when general manager John Lynch pulled the trigger on drafting punter Mitch Wishnowsky in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Yes, there was a void in the punter spot. But the fourth round is extremely early to draft at that position.
But so far in practice, Wishnowsky has been living up to his draft position, as he has been crushing punts with incredible hang time.
Just take a look at this video from Brad Graham of Fourth and Nine of your average Wishnowsky punt:
We all saw how punter Michael Dickson contributed to San Francisco’s arch rival Seattle Seahawks last season, earning him first-team All-Pro honors and helping Seattle snag a playoff berth.
Who knows? Maybe Wishnowsky will turn out to be the 49ers’ X-factor for the season.
