No. 1: All Things Jimmy Garoppolo

San Francisco’s 2018 season went awash as soon as quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo suffered his season-ending ACL tear in Week 3. At that very point, the focus turned to 2019.

  • Well, here we are.

The 27 year old has still only started just 10 pro-level games despite inking what was then a record-setting five-year, $137.5 million contract early last year. And with the 49ers looking to get back above the .500 mark for the first time since 2013, it’s pretty safe to assume there will be a lot of pressure on Jimmy G to both live up to that contract and deliver as a franchise signal-caller.

“It’s officially official,” Garoppolo told the media on Friday. “We’re good to go.

“I’m really happy where I’m at. I think it was a very successful summer, got a lot done, a lot of different, just things we wanted to work on. It’s really coming together now. Now it’s time to roll.”

Garoppolo won’t have a lot of excuses this time. He has a full year immersed in Kyle Shanahan’s complex offense, while the team invested a lot of money and effort providing additional weaponry to support the quarterback.

And while many will focus on the budding camp battle for the No. 2 quarterback job, the one between C.J. Beathard and Nick Mullens, there’s no way to avoid the fact all eyes will be on Garoppolo to finally emerge as the guy.

If he does, one can bank on the likelihood 2019 will be a very good year for San Francisco.
