Which 49ers legend would you want on the current roster?

With the San Francisco 49ers’ 90-man roster largely set heading into 2019 training camp, Niner Noise finds out which Niners legend would be the perfect addition to the current roster.

Training camp is just around the corner. And for the San Francisco 49ers, the talent in position groups is basically set. Now we’re going to see more cuts than additions to the roster.

But, there’s an interesting hypothetical I want to bring up. If the Niners could add any legend from their teams, wide receiver Jerry Rice or quarterback Joe Montana for example, which one would you choose? That player at his prime with the 49ers — so no prime Randy Moss because he wasn’t a Niner at that stage of his career — on the roster right now.

Now, because of the current makeup of the team, there are some positions that just don’t make any sense. Pulling prime Frank Gore into the 49ers backfield would be awesome. But when the Niners are stockpiled at the position with several high-level players, it just doesn’t make any sense. Same thing with tight end, where George Kittle literally broke the record for most receiving yards. There isn’t much need for a legend at that position.

Yet there are plenty of other names to consider in this would-be scenario. Thankfully, there’s no shortage of San Francisco greats who’d make outstanding additions to the current roster entering 2019.

Let’s just go through some critical positions, all for the fun of it, and see how adding a legend here and a Hall of Famer there changes the roster.
