San Francisco 49ers: 10 players to watch during 2019 training camp
By Peter Panacy
No. 9: Cornerback Richard Sherman
If there was one constant within the 49ers’ beleaguered secondary last year, it was veteran cornerback Richard Sherman.
Sherman was one of the few bright spots amid a defensive backfield which produced a mere two interceptions. And while Sherman had neither, he certainly wasn’t the biggest liability back there.
So, what puts Sherman on this list?
For starters, he just turned 31 years old. Age is going to start coming into play sooner than later. That said, Sherman appears to be fully recovered from the 2017 Achilles tear he suffered with the Seattle Seahawks — the same injury which ultimately led to him being let go and signing on with San Francisco.
Yet Sherman was never fully healthy over the course of 2018, and he admitted it cut into his playing abilities.
Hopefully those concerns are no longer a part of the equation, and Sherman will be able to pick up where he left off before his 2017 injury.
The Niners will need it, too, considering the swarm of question marks they have within the secondary entering the regular season.
