San Francisco 49ers: The all-time team in franchise history
By Peter Panacy
Linebackers
Outside Linebackers: Dave Wilcox and Charles Haley
Inside Linebackers: Patrick Willis and NaVorro Bowman
San Francisco’s outside linebacker tandem on the all-time list includes two Hall of Fame players: Dave Wilcox and Charles Haley.
Haley was selected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2015, and his rookie season in 1986 proved to be one of his best as Haley totaled 59 tackles and 12 sacks despite not being tabbed as a starter. Haley would be a part of a vaunted San Francisco defense over the next six seasons, helping the 49ers win two Super Bowls and earning a trip to three Pro Bowls over the same span.
Wilcox earned his Hall of Fame nod in 2000 long after retiring from the game after the 1974 season. He earned seven Pro Bowl nominations and was named First-Team All-Pro twice during his 11-year 49ers career.
The 49ers enjoyed one of the best interior linebacker tandems with Patrick Willis and NaVorro Bowman during the first half of the 2010 decade.
Willis was named to the Pro Bowl all but one season of his eight-year career and earned First-Team All-Pro accolades five times.
Alongside him was Bowman, who recently announced his intent to retire as a member of the 49ers after his storybook term first came to a close in 2017.
