Original Picks: D.J. Jones, Pita Taumoepenu

Hey, we’re getting creative here, right? So why not come up with a revisionist trade scenario?

It’s not too massive of one, and rare are the trades taking place in the final two rounds of the NFL Draft anyway.

So, here’s your scenario:

It might be a proverbial “trading pebbles for rocks” scenario. And doing so would mean the Niners pass on now-starting nose tackle D.J. Jones. It would also mean a pass on EDGE Pita Taumoepenu, who never panned out at the pro level.

But one could argue the 49ers had/have more pressing needs in the secondary, and now-Dallas Cowboys safety Xavier Woods has proven to be a quality starter at the free safety spot.

San Francisco still hasn’t found a long-term solution for that position.
