The 49ers already added one safety in this mock NFL Draft, Grant Delpit. But given the number of injuries the team has suffered here the past few seasons, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to grab at least another defensive back to provide some depth.

Fresno State defensive back JuJu Hughes has primarily lined up at safety. At 5-foot-11 and 182 pounds, though, it wouldn’t be out of the question giving him some time at nickel cornerback, too, where the Niners could stand for additional depth.

Hughes managed four interceptions for the Bulldogs in 2018, along with an impressive eight pass breakups. It wouldn’t be a shock to see him excel on special teams, either, as he seems to have a knack for singling out ball carriers and taking them down relatively quickly, suggesting he plays bigger than his smallish size would indicate.

That said, Hughes could stand to add some bulk to his frame. The lack of size could create additional injury problems at the pro level, and he’ll have to be sound with his technique to avoid long-term setbacks.

But for a seventh rounder, Hughes would be a nice selection to wrap up the 49ers’ would-be 2020 draft class.

Don’t like this mock NFL Draft? It’s OK. We’re bound to have plenty more between now and next year’s draft in Vegas.
