It’s pretty safe to say veteran kicker Robbie Gould won’t be back with the 49ers in 2020 after being hit with the franchise tag this season.

A simple guess would have Gould wanting to return to his hometown, Chicago, to play with the Bears before he finally calls it quits. And reports state he wasn’t happy with the Niners preventing him from testing the free-agent market during the offseason.

The 49ers may have reached on grabbing Utah punter Mitch Wishnowsky in this year’s NFL Draft. But getting a specialist in Round 7 isn’t exactly a bad thing.

Now, it’s just about selecting the right one.

To do this, San Francisco turns to one of its favorite college programs, Stanford, grabbing kicker Jet Toner.

First, Toner has a pretty cool name. And his 100-percent extra-point conversion rate in 2018 is pretty good, too. So is hitting on all but one of his 15 field-goal tries last year.

Hopefully Toner would replicate the kind of success Gould had during his Niners stint.
