At this point in the NFL Draft, the 49ers will likely return to their strategy of grabbing players they think have the best chance to make the regular-season roster in 2020.

If that’s the case, you might see some different names than what you’d expect.

Yet one of the names to watch is Mississippi State linebacker Leo Lewis, who’d likely supply some much-needed depth and special teams abilities to a position with some question marks. First off, veteran linebacker Malcolm Smith is going to be a free agent next season, likely removing a key backup or starting strong-side candidate. Both Kwon Alexander and Fred Warner have some injury concerns at this point in 2019, too.

Lewis, 6-foot-2 and 240 pounds, looks to be the part of a quick-twitch linebacker. He’s quick to recognize what ball carriers are going to do, and he has some traits to suggest he can be good in coverage.

While he’ll need to get stronger in tackling, he’d be a solid addition on day three of the draft.
