No. 3: Defensive End Nick Bosa

Edge rusher was a huge need that the front office chose to ignore last offseason, and it came back to haunt the 49ers in a big way (seeing a concerning similar trend with the safety position this year). However, with the lack of sack production in 2018, John Lynch decided to add two elite pass-rushers to this defense: Dee Ford and Nick Bosa.

Drafting Bosa with the No. 2 overall pick was the best thing that the 49ers could have done in the first round of this year’s draft, and they did it, immediately filling a need. Bosa is the key that completes this stacked front seven. The team now has incredibly solid interior defensive linemen in DeForest Buckner, Arik Armstead and Solomon Thomas, and two studs at the edge, especially the rookie Bosa.

Bosa does have an injury history, suffering a core muscle injury last year that ended his college career prematurely. He has also already suffered a hamstring injury in OTAs, although he’s expected to be back in time for training camp.

Seeing how rookies play in the pros is one of the best parts of football, and Bosa staying healthy this season is essential to not only helping out the team’s pass rush, but also evaluating him as an NFL player.

Let’s hope Lynch has finally hit on a defensive lineman.
