No. 1: 49ers Putting a Lot of Faith in Injured Players

Remember that part about Jimmie Ward landing on injured reserve in four of his first five years in the NFL? Ahkello Witherspoon and Adrian Colbert also landed IR, but they’re yet to be labeled “injury prone.”

More from SF 49ers News

But there are others with notable injury worries heading into 2019, and they go far beyond Jimmy Garoppolo and Jerick McKinnon.

Jason Verrett has appeared in only five regular-season games dating back to the start of 2016, and he’s competing for a full-time role. There will be talk of the 49ers’ top pick from the 2019 NFL Draft, Ohio State EDGE Nick Bosa, and how well he’s recovered from his collegiate abdominal injury. Strong safety Jaquiski Tartt has landed on IR in back-to-back seasons, and there are those 2018 offensive line injuries to Weston Richburg and Laken Tomlinson to consider, too.

According to the law of averages, the Niners have to enjoy some better luck with injuries this season after being hit oh-so hard with the injury bug a year ago.

But the NFL doesn’t subscribe to the law of averages, and injuries can pile up for even the best of teams.

Depressed enough, Niners fans? Don’t worry. We’ll have optimism out for you here soon.
