As the San Francisco 49ers held their rookie 2019 minicamp, expectations are high that this batch of NFL draftees will be able to help the team to playoff contention. Niner Noise makes some early predictions what the rookies will get up to.

The first official practices have commenced for the San Francisco 49ers, as we saw the rookie minicamp get underway. As someone who loves to see rookies play in any sport, it got me thinking what could be some surprises we see this season in that regard.

Before we kick off, I want to state firmly that these predictions are just a mixture of gut feeling, the state of the Niners’ roster and a bit of luck (if they come off). It has nothing to do with the minicamp.

Let’s not fool ourselves. There isn’t really much to take out of these in the grand scheme of things. Rosters are not determined by drafted rookies, tryout players and other such players going at it in shorts and without pads.

The one thing it does, however, is maybe show us a few diamonds in the rough. Those who fight with a tenacity and intensity which will translate over well when the real practices happen.

The 49ers aren’t averse to letting undrafted or late-round picks into the action if they deserve it. Finds such as quarterback Nick Mullens, running back Matt Breida, wide receiver Kendrick Bourne, tight end George Kittle and safety Marcell Harris (to name just a sample) all have found themselves as starters or key backups who had substantial playing time after being drafted late, or not drafted at all.

So what are some early predictions for the rookies? Let’s take a look.
