For cornerback Tim Harris, this season, at minimum, will be all about either getting onto the 53-man roster or the practice squad.

More from Niner Noise

The 49ers have invested heavily in the last few years at defensive back, with picks a lot higher than Harris, so they won’t feel pressured into keeping him on the roster for appearance’s sake.

However, there are some traits to like about Harris, who I believe could have been taken as early in the fourth round, had injuries not derailed him in college.

This is about immediate impact, however, and Harris is the player I feel is most likely to be under threat when it comes to making the team.

Even if he does make the roster, he will have to compete with established players for playing time, like all late round rookies. Luckily, he does enjoy some advantages, namely the lack of depth in the team’s secondary and his versatility, which is a trait the Niners always look for.

If he can make the team and secure a backup role, there’s no reason he couldn’t be on the field for a few snaps.
