You’ve got to love what Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard is doing, turning this team around from a disappointment only a few years ago into a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

And how does he go about doing it this offseason? By reinforcing the defense, and then doing so again and again, rising up NFL power rankings in the process.

After landing Justin Houston to serve a situational pass-rushing role, Ballard landed a promising cornerback in Rock Ya-Sin, who has plenty of upside but won’t be pressed into a starting role right away. TCU’s Ben Banogu was also a nice find, while safeties Khari Willis and Marvell Tell III will supply both depth and special teams abilities.

There were some tweaks to the offence, of course, namely signing Devin Funchess and supporting him with the selection of Perris Campbell from Ohio State in Round 2.

The focus, of course, will be on quarterback Andrew Luck. But he finally has a legit offensive line in front of him, as well as one of the better up-and-coming running backs in Marlon Mack.

Look for Indy to be strong favorites for the AFC South this season and could easily stay in the top 10 of NFL power rankings all year long.
