49ers’ best and worst picks from the 2019 NFL Draft
By Peter Panacy
The San Francisco 49ers came away with eight player selections in the 2019 NFL Draft, and Niner Noise breaks down which ones were the best and worst from this class.
Hopefully you’ve had a little time to let the San Francisco 49ers‘ 2019 NFL Draft class marinate in your brain a little bit.
And in case you’ve already forgotten, here’s a rundown of how general manager John Lynch’s picks panned out from Rounds 1 through 6:
- EDGE Nick Bosa, Ohio State
- Wide Receiver Deebo Samuel, South Carolina
- Wide Receiver Jalen Hurd, Baylor
- Punter Mitch Wishnowsky, Utah
- Linebacker Dre Greenlaw, Arkansas
- Tight End Kaden Smith, Stanford
- Offensive Tackle Justin Skule, Vanderbilt
- Cornerback Tim Harris, Virginia
Jumping to conclusions about any draft class is always premature, especially if you subscribe to the argument a full three years are needed to fully determine whether or not a prospect was worthwhile.
That said, it’s still possible to take a quick look back at which players should be considered the Niners’ best selections.
And which ones were the worst.
We’ll do that here, picking two for each category and then going into some detail about which prospects either have “boom” or “bust” written across their respective futures. What will be more fun, however, is coming back and looking at this projection and prediction, seeing whether or not any of these way-too-early assessments were even remotely accurate.
Seriously, looking back at 2017, who thought fifth-round draftee George Kittle would set an NFL record for most receiving yards in a single season by a tight end?
If you like silly exercises, which we’re masters at here at Niner Noise, let’s dive into the best and worst picks from 2019.
