Boy, wouldn’t the 49ers have a tough decision on their hands if both A.J. Brown and South Carolina wide receiver Deebo Samuel were available at No. 36 overall?

It could happen, realistically. Brown’s teammate at Ole Miss, D.K. Metcalf, has yet to be selected despite putting up some monstrous NFL Scouting Combine numbers, and one of the teams drafting ahead of San Francisco in Round 2 could easily go that route.

Regardless, there’s also a good chance the Niners are eyeing Samuel a bit more than they could be Brown. Like Brown, the 49ers also held a pre-draft meeting with Samuel, who flashed plenty of prowess and promise during the 2019 Senior Bowl, where he worked under Kyle Shanahan and had a great week of practice.

At 5-foot-11 and 214 pounds, Samuel is a slight bit smaller than Brown. Yet one could argue Samuel’s footwork and separation skills are a bit more polished. And just because the Samuel is smaller than Brown doesn’t mean he’s any less physical.

In fact, one could also make an argument Samuel is more aggressive at the line of scrimmage, too.

The point here is this: There’s a good chance either Brown or Samuel will be available in Round 2 at No. 36 overall, which points to a high probability the 49ers will look hard at selecting the available player, who ranks highest on their day-two big board.
