The San Francisco 49ers have already brought aboard EDGE Nick Bosa with their top pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Here are five possibilities for their Round 2 selection.

There was already plenty of speculation and rumor surrounding what the San Francisco 49ers would wind up doing with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Despite essentially being limited to just three options, the other two being a trade down or grabbing Alabama defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, general manager John Lynch and Co. did the obvious and selected Ohio State edge rusher Nick Bosa after the top-drafting Arizona Cardinals took Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray to kick off the first round.

Great pick. A no-brainer for San Francisco.

But drafts aren’t won in Round 1 alone, and the 49ers will look to use their next pick, No. 36 overall, to land yet another impact talent.

The Niners could go one of many different directions now. A good chunk of first-round talent ended up slipping out of Round 1, which provides Lynch with some solid options. Yet there are some pressing needs, and Lynch will have to hit on this pick arguably more so than the Bosa choice.

As such, here are five potential targets San Francisco can go after when Round 2 kicks off.

The 49ers are banking on a successful depth chart at free safety, consisting of Jimmie Ward and Adrian Colbert, in 2019.

But Ward, who was re-signed on a one-year deal earlier this offseason, has landed on injured reserve in four of his first five seasons at the pro level. And before he also landed on IR with a high-ankle sprain, Colbert was Pro Football Focus‘ worst-graded starting safety last year.

After missing out on now-Baltimore Ravens safety Earl Thomas in NFL free agency, one wouldn’t be surprised to see the Niners target an up-and-coming defensive back on day two of the NFL Draft.

Delaware’s Nasir Adderley is a player to watch here.

Despite his small-school pedigree, Adderley boasts some tremendous coverage skills, apparent from being a converted nickel cornerback. Adderley moves well and has solid sideline-to-sideline skills — something necessary for a single-high Cover 3 safety.

Adderley likely won’t last until Round 3, meaning he’ll have to be a second rounder for San Francisco, if that’s the team’s true target.
