Bosa is a respected teammate

As previously mentioned, Nick Bosa was sidelined for the majority of his junior college year after suffering a core muscle tear in Week 3. Following injury and the subsequent surgery, Bosa said goodbye to his fellow Ohio State teammates, focusing on his rehab, recovery and eventual NFL Draft.

Following his decision to take the remainder of the season off and not attempt to rush back to pick up some game time later into the season, Bosa was criticized by some for not being a “team player” and only thinking about himself.

However, from all accounts, nothing could be further from the truth. With teammates and coaching staff rallying around Bosa and providing the support he required. Something both general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan both touched on during their draft presser:

“Myself and [vice president of player personnel] Adam Peters went down on a day to watch Ohio State,” Lynch said. “It was very fortuitous for us because Nick Bosa decided to show up at practice, and he was away from his team all year getting healthy, and this guy shows up in sunglasses and shorts and organically we watched this happen. The entire practice stopped, and every player, every coach, every student manager on that team stopped and embraced Nick Bosa.”

With the 49ers reportedly having quite a close and tight-knit locker room with no apparent diva’s onboard, selecting the right player to add to that locker room, whether via the draft or free agency is always going to involve an important thought process by Niners’ staff.

Shanahan is happy with everything he has seen from Bosa, both from first-hand experiences and reports from teammates and believes he’ll be a great fit in the 49ers’ locker room.

“It’s always great when you hear that his teammates like him, and what John witnessed is a very good story,” Shanahan said. “We interviewed a number of people at Ohio State at the draft, and you’re always going to ask them what do they think of their teammates and stuff and to hear all those guys actually speak about Nick the way they did was very encouraging. But, I’m always going to go off my own experience with a person, and I was very happy with the guy I got to spend some time with him.”
