With the San Francisco 49ers selecting Ohio State EDGE Nick Bosa No. 2 overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, here’s three things to know about the Niners’ newest recruit.

Defensive end Nick Bosa out of Ohio State had long been pegged as one of the top prospects in the 2019 NFL Draft for the San Francisco 49ers to select. With the Niners needing additional help at edge rusher, it looked like a match made in heaven.

With the addition of both Bosa and the free agency signing of EDGE Dee Ford, the 49ers’ defensive line has seen a drastic improvement prior to the commencement of the 2019 NFL season. Add into the mix the interior players of defensive linemen DeForest Bucker, Arik Armstead and Solomon Thomas, and the Niners have quite the formidable defensive front.

So, with Bosa now entrenched as one of the 49ers’ leading defensive players, what are some of the things we need to know about the player who is predicted to be the Niners’ next big star?

Bosa is the perfect fit for the 49ers

Having played in a 4-3 scheme at Ohio State, there is little doubt that Bosa should make the transition to the NFL quite quickly and painlessly.

“I knew I wanted to go there,” Bosa said, referring to the 49ers. “I knew they were an unbelievable fit for me, and the people made me feel really comfortable. The area is super nice. It’s definitely an amazing fit. I’m excited to go to work. It’s exactly what I’ve been doing all my life, I think I’ll hop in and acclimate pretty quick.”

He was dominant during his college career, albeit with his junior year being cut short due to injury. From 29 games he recorded a total of 17.5 sacks and a combined total of 77 tackles, including 29 for a loss.

Had Bosa played the entirety of his junior college year, it’s expected his numbers would have been considerably higher.

Bosa was clearly the front runner when it came to EDGE’s in this year’s draft, with his skillset a step above the rest. His technique and refined abilities should prove to be instrumental for the 49ers.
