After months of waiting, the NFL Draft is finally here. What should San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch do with the No. 2 pick in his arsenal? What should he avoid?

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch is now in control of his third NFL Draft — let’s hope his previous two years of experience come in handy, because he is going to need them.

Ever since Lynch took over as general manager, the 49ers have not fared much better than the previous disastrous Trent Baalke-led regime. This can be blamed on injuries, yes, but Lynch has undeniably whiffed on a fair share of prospects.

He needs to right the ship starting tonight with the No. 2 overall pick in hand.

There are a couple of obvious options for the No. 2 pick. First off, there’s edge rusher Nick Bosa — the obvious choice for San Francisco. He is an incredibly talented player against the run and the pass, and fills a position of need.

However, then there’s defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, who is an even better prospect than the Los Angeles Rams’ Aaron Donald was coming out of college. Williams is what you would call a generational talent, and it would definitely be hard to pass on the most talented prospected in this draft class.

Rounding out possible draft options at No. 2 are edge rushers Josh Allen and Rashan Gary. Allen has a high ceiling, but extremely low floor and could very easily bust. He has one truly dominating move, speed. And if that skill doesn’t translate well into the NFL for him, then he will not even be close to being worth the pick. Gary is a freakish specimen, but is just not talented enough to warrant being picked at No. 2.

It is safe to say that Lynch should not take either of these two prospects with the No. 2 pick in the draft.

However, the 49ers could also decide to trade down, especially the Arizona Cardinals do not draft quarterback Kyler Murray. This would force quarterback-needy teams to offer up a fool’s ransom for the No. 2 pick, which I bet Lynch would gladly accept, since San Francisco only currently has six picks in the draft. Some teams the 49ers could possibly trade down with are the Oakland Raiders, New York Giants, Washington Redskins, Miami Dolphins and Denver Broncos.

Since pairing Bosa with Dee Ford at the edge fills a need, that should be the best-case scenario for the 49ers tonight. Taking the BPA (best player available) in Williams and trading down are also great options.
