2019 NFL Draft: Stock watch for 49ers targets during draft week
Stock down: Jachai Polite, EDGE, Florida
I want you to stop reading this for a moment. Go look up how many ships the U.S. Navy has and how many torpedoes it can stock. Now do the same for the Russians. And the Chinese. Throw in the French while we’re at it.
Why? Because they combined do not have enough munitions to do the damage Florida EDGE Jachai Polite did in torpedoing his draft stock.
Oh boy, where to start?
Well for one, his NFL Scouting Combine was arguably the biggest disaster in recent history. He showed up underweight, underprepared and underperformed. He then suffered an “injury,” a word I am forced to put into quotations because nobody believed for a second that he was injured, before withdrawing.
He then, in a media interview, complained about teams grilling him during interviews (naming teams specifically, including the 49ers), despite this being a fairly common thing. Especially when it comes to players with behavioral concerns.
Hell, don’t take my word for it. Just ask Jon Ledyard:
And Brett Yarris:
Polite went from a surefire first-round pick to… well, to be honest, I am totally unsure. It only takes one team to decide the talent is worth the headache, but the only definite is he won’t be picked as highly as he should have been.
