Quarterback
Jimmy Garoppolo
Again, another clear-cut choice to start in 2019.
Jimmy Garoppolo’s recovery from his Week 3 ACL tear a year ago seems to be going well, which is great news. And while he has only started 10 games at the NFL level (crazy to think such), there’s little doubt San Francisco’s chances for a successful campaign this year hinge on his abilities under center.

The Niners offense is upgraded from when Garoppolo enjoyed his five-game stretch back in 2017, and that’s good. Likewise, Garoppolo should make the players around him better, too, which is something his backups, C.J. Beathard and Nick Mullens, came nowhere close to replicating last season.
Speaking of Beathard and Mullens, San Francisco is slated to have a nice little competition for that key backup spot.
Kyle Shanahan has reiterated both players will have an equal shot to be the No. 2 on the depth chart, and training camp and the preseason should reveal a lot about who has taken the bigger leap.
As for the loser of that competition, well… his future will be interesting, to say the least.
