49ers 2019 NFL Draft: 5 players to target on day three
While the San Francisco 49ers will likely fill their needs at EDGE, wide receiver and possibly safety during the early rounds of the 2019 NFL Draft, day three still holds a lot of talent to help plug up some remaining roster holes.
With the 2019 NFL Draft fast approaching, the San Francisco 49ers should by now have a reasonable idea of the positions they would like to address and the players they are interested in. General manager John Lynch will be under pressure to produce a successful draft this year, selecting premium players in the first few rounds while finding value in the late rounds and into day three.
Mock drafts and player-analysis pieces are in full swing, with fans and writers having their hearts set on their favorite college players and why they would be a good fit for San Francisco. And while not every player we hope for will find their way onto the 49ers’ roster come late April, we still hold out hope that at least a couple will make the cut.
While top-tier players will be taken early in the first few rounds of the draft, there is still enough talent remaining on day three for the Niners to pick up some valuable players at bargain prices. With day-three prospects garnering much smaller contracts than the higher rounds, but quite regularly still providing a reasonable level of football expertise.
You have some players who slip to the later rounds through injuries, poor NFL Scouting Combine results or purely known behavioural issues, both on or off the field. This is where NFL teams have the opportunity more often than not to take a chance on a player that they may not have been comfortable taking with a higher-round pick.
The 49ers have needs spread across both the offense and defense leading into the 2019 season. And, while it’s somewhat unpredictable to determine who they like and where their priorities lie, I take a look at five players likely to add some value on day three of the 2019 NFL Draft.
