The San Francisco 49ers are widely predicted to grab Ohio State EDGE Nick Bosa in the 2019 NFL Draft. But what if they take Kentucky EDGE Josh Allen instead? This mock focuses on the latter choice if it’s made in Round 1.

Judging by most accounts, the San Francisco 49ers are likely to take Ohio State EDGE Nick Bosa with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

But what if the pick winds up being used on someone else?

There’s a number of ways that could happen. The No. 1-drafting Arizona Cardinals are widely predicted to take Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray, leaving Bosa to the Niners. But if that’s merely a smokescreen, and the Cardinals wind up grabbing Bosa instead, general manager John Lynch will be forced to consider someone else.

Or, perhaps, Lynch and Co. actually have another player pegged as a better fit and, perhaps, higher on the 49ers’ big board.

One such player? Kentucky EDGE Josh Allen.

It’s not hard to find big boards listing Allen as the No. 3 overall prospect behind Bosa and Alabama defensive tackle Quinnen Williams. Williams would create quite a logjam on an already-crowded defensive line, so there’s a chance he’s not considered with the Niners’ top pick.

Allen, however, fills a massive need in more than a number of ways.

In this full 7-round mock draft for San Francisco, we’ll go ahead and make Lynch’s first pick Allen. This isn’t to say the 49ers would or should go this route — if you want a mock breakdown with Bosa on top, click here — rather just breaking down how the rest of the Niners’ picks would fall together if Allen goes to San Francisco.

The 49ers are now on the clock. And for simple measure, Bosa has already gone to Arizona.
